Honoring the Spiritual Lives of Children in a Multi-Ethnic Community
This commitment sums up the heart of Kids’ Ministry at Access Covenant Church. Two phrases repeatedly used at Access are “You Belong to Jesus” & “Anyone Can Know God.” We believe this applies not only to all adults, but to kids of all ages as well!
On Sundays, kids K-5th Grade stay with parents during singing, prayers, and giving, before being dismissed to engage with their own lesson. Lessons are sent via email to families on Saturday afternoon, to allow time to print out in preparation for Sunday. Most require only common household items (markers, sometimes glue or scissors, snack items). To receive a lesson prior to Sunday, please email our Children's Leader, Bonnie Parker, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
During non-covid times, our children's ministry looks like this:
For kids 0 to 4: Our nursery time includes singing, stories, snacks--and lots of fun!
For grade-schoolers: Godly Play is a Montessori approach to teaching kids the Stories of Scripture. We emphasize mindfully listening and creatively responding. Our curriculum intentionally emphasizes the cross-cultural aspects of the Biblical Story in order to help our kids to live and pray as followers of Jesus in a diverse world.
Everyone who serves with kids at Access must undergo a background check and follow a safety plan.

This Sunday, you are invited to come out and be a part of what God is doing here at Access in Portland. Each weekend people from all walks of life coming together to celebrate the goodness of our God. What are you waiting for? This is Access "where anyone can know God. "
